TEATRONG BUSKO PRESENTS

BUBUNGANG LATA and GAWI

BUBUNGANG LATA

Set on a house where water drips from holes of their bubong, couple Maldo and wife argues. Wife questions Maldo on how critical he could be with his looks but fails to be that OC for a home provider. This argument then leads to Maldo and wife questioning their relationship which eventually made Maldo's pride-- that which men could live without- surface out. It has been evident by his refusal to accept money from her wife's parents and his refusal to ask for steel roof fromsome chinese recycling merchandise. Maldo happens to be an artist -rather used to be a highly valued artist but as it has been implied, he got unpopular and so the couple's problems with money. Wife becomes the provider of food by sleeping with guys of the slum. Maldo happens to learn of this infidelity but in the eventuality has succumbed to eating his anger and pride as he realized his unworthiness to judge his wife because of his failure to provide for her

Pride, makes men weak and love for the family makes women strong. I say, if not for Maldo's pride, he couldve sought ways to provide for his family other than hoping for the hopeless that someday some big producer will take notice of him. On the other hand the wife, as a woman, is strong. That i can say because she has this gut to sleep with other men to provide food for her family which is supposed to be the duty of a husband. This couldnt just be any manifestation of women's slattern but this infidelity has a virtue- although it is a virtue unsound for an established norm. (In india, as i've gathered from Q&A of Vikas Swarup, women of a certain indian family are forced to be prostitutes so they could provide for the family)

i could be a sexist sometimes.

Thoughts:

Men are providers. That was evident in the earlier times and even during the prehistoric times. As in the hunting era, they were the hunters and on the other hand women are the ones responsible for caring for the children. These gender roles hasnt been changed until women demanded for more rights to education and representation. As time changes, women now have this dual role as a mother and as someone who provides. Yet as woman's role as a mother remains, so is man's role as the main provider.

In a biological perspective, women consciously or unconsciously wants a partner who could provide. Good looks and personality may be points for attraction but in the eventuality, good looks and the likes would only be second to the providing capability when it comes to women's standards in looking for their mates in life.

Constructive Criticisms

Perhaps, the wife's character should be the central of this play because the conflict of her character is a more beautiful literary problem over Maldo's. or perhaps both should have been given equal focus.

I find the performances of the actress and actors really commendable. They have delivered their lines in a way which made their characters realistic and i was awed at how they have inserted humor despite the seriousness of their conflicts.

GAWI
Review
Presenting Nikka Omaga as YanYan- a lesbian call center agent with issues. Story revolves on personal issues of everyone in the barkada -with Gender and Sexuality, Filial attachment and maturity as themes.

Cheers to teatrong Busko!

Anyway,

Reunions of barkadas such as the one portrayed is really that fun. With or without the presence of alcohol, nakakatuwa kung yung isang friend bigla na lang magiging pilosopo.

Haha!

NIKKA OMAGA! Congratulations!
