My account of Ondoy

09.26.09. Saturday.

THE THREE STEPS OF HOPE
Just about three steps left of our staircase- had the water risen more, we couldve been one of those people who ended up being stranded atop their houses' roofs: helpless and had grown almost hopeless with every minute they have to wait to be rescued.

Truth be told, i thought it was just like any other heavy rainfall scenario where our house - located in an apartment relatively lower tha n other houses on our place- would be flooded. Water would be- at its most- below the knees. And so my complacency during the first few hours of the constant raining. We've prepared for that. We've made our house 'baha-proof' as we have coined it. Baha-proof, meaning, come the heavy rain, the only things we need to be concerned of would be our slippers, school things and the loose electrical wirings(if there some) plus other petty things. Our TV had been set on a higher stand and our ref had its own stand too. And oour kitchen stuffs too.

Apparently, our baha-proof house have failed us as the water had risen to a level we didnt expect.

But seriously, compared to others, nothing have been devastated on our part. We were lucky that my family were spared. For that, I am thankful. God is merciful indeed!

As my sister puts it, "It could've been me or you or us both" - but it never had been so i would help.

This is my lola reaching for things that should be saved.
Forgive me I was never the one to have braved the dirty flood water.
She hadnt let me help her anyway.
My super lola. See how she even tried to carry our ref.
Of course i didnt let her carry that. I protested. Luckily, she gave up the idea of lifting it.
We let it float. there is nothing that could be done.

our kitchen with 6 or so steps left on our staircase.

our sala, also with 6 steps left. at about 3 steps, less than a third of that window would be left.

i almost forgot my tennis racket and my t-square hanging by the door.tsk

THE STREETS

The streets when the the flood had subsided. It had remained at this level until Monday morning. 'Lagpas- tao' was how people from the neighborhood described how high the flood had been the previous night.

CLEANING TIME

Even Snoopy had struggled. Poor him, he got beheaded.

Our front yard. It's dirtier than it looks. Trust me.

The Mop. It's usefulness can never be denied.

My sister, Carmela being an OC cleaning 'food contact things'. As a nursing student, she has this motto: "When in doubt, dispose", so a lot of our things were indeed disposed.

My sister on her job as a wall scrubber.

My cousin, Jill bossing around.
Sweating it out.

Piles of trash everywhere.
You still wonder why it floods?

Life goes on. This pile of trash is a feast.

Water is ESSENTIAL.

Grocery scenario: Panic Buying. Another storm was announced to hit PAR. Shortly after it had reopened, people flocked Puregold.
